Soundtrack for my late 70s/early 80s sense of abandonment because I was 9 going on 90 and my mother was moving to the Caribbean right after she dropped off the plants with her shrink and sent me to live with my father (which was awkward because he had this new wife who hadn’t at all planned on stepparenting me). I’d stare at the phone, desperately hoping it would ring, that it would be her, but it hardly ever was because that’s when long distance calls were so expensive.

So when this ridiculous song came on the radio (as long as my dad and stepmom-designee were out of earshot), I would croon right along, It’s so funny, how we don’t taaalk anymore - and it was stupid, I knew even then, but it made me feel better.
