Update, re: this post reading in part:

We may be able to avoid the power getting cut off if we are able to score one of a local organization’s limited number of energy assistance appointments (we’ve been trying for weeks at this) for this coming Tuesday, September 29th (otherwise, shut off date is September 30th).

We finally got through, and have an appointment for Monday, October 6th. Yes, this is a full week after the “turn off notice” (har har), but hopefully Dominion Virginia Power will defer action as long as we have a confirmed appointment in place.

Whew.

In other news, I’m on my third consecutive round of prednisone at the maximum dose because for some reason my asthma has decided this would be a convenient time in my life to totally kick my ass. ER last night was a nightmare. Besides being parked on an oft-rammed-into gurney in a major thoroughfare outside the nurse’s station for hours (during which time I witnessed countless heated arguments among staff), no one, at any point from when I registered until I was discharged, took so much as a minimal patient history, or asked what medications I was already on (though I repeatedly, albeit wheezily [?], offered this information).

Also irritating: this.

BUT I’m a little better now, and I’ll take any degree of “things sucking less” as a victory right now.
