Exchange with an @vmarinelli follower after I'd followed from @vmarinelliRVA, Or, "Experiments in data flow management & useless efforts to mitigate Internet Butt-Hurt."
  • Butt-Hurt Individual: What is this? I get @vmarinelli's secretary to follow me? What a gyp! I want the real thing!
  • Me: I know, right? I'm such an asshole. (Actually, just trying to maintain manageable data flow. Everyone my alt account follows, I check & star their Favrds every day or two when I can :)
  • BHI: Oh, I appreciate the stars you've given these past few months. You follow me via Favrd. Plenty of people do.
  • (pause)
  • BHI: I'm thinking of writing a post asking "[PROPOSED TITLE REDACTED]" asking for comments before I start unfollowing all the people I only followed for a month because they voted for me.
  • Me: LOTS of folks don't follow me back, although we're "Internet friends" & that's OK. Also if you ever want to just email, it's vmarinelli@gmail.com
  • BHI: Oh, no, I couldn't accept your email. I'd rather do something totally passive aggressive and DM your "husband" to deliver my message.
  • @vmarinelliRVA (to all of Twitter): Honestly can't tell whether I was just passively-aggressively accused of being passive aggressive. (None but me should find this hilarious.)
  • Me (muttering to myself in the wee hours of Saturday morning): WTF were those quotation marks around "husband" supposed to infer? Also, why do I bother?
